Welcome to do pilates

Frequently asked questions

Starting pilates

  • Pilates is a low-impact workout that focuses on strength, control, and mindful movement. It builds core stability, balance, and flexibility — helping you move better every day.

Reformer Pilates is a form of Pilates performed on a reformer machine — a bed-like frame with a sliding carriage, springs, straps, and pulleys that add resistance and support to your movements.

  • At do pilates, we keep things small, personal, and welcoming. Blending reformer and mat exercises, our experienced instructors give you individual feedback, plenty of space to move, and a supportive environment to grow. Fresh air flows through the studio, and our private balcony is perfect for prams and furry friends to chill while you do your thing. We’re not a Pilates factory — just a local spot to move, connect, and feel good in both body and mind.

  • We suggest starting with our Begin — Form Foundations class for your first 5-10 sessions. You’ll learn essential safety tips, how to set up your equipment, and the foundational movements—so you can feel comfortable, confident, and fully supported from the start.

  • Yes! Reformers aren’t as scary as they look. We’ll help you get set up, move safely, and feel confident — with personal tweaks and hands-on support (only if you want it). You’ll be a pro in no time!

  • Not at all! Pilates meets you at your level. We’ll help you progress at your own pace, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced mover.

  • Yes! We’re here to support you through every stage of pregnancy. Please provide medical clearance before attending and let your instructor know each visit so we can guide you with safe modifications. After about 12 weeks, some movements will be adjusted for your comfort and safety. We also have a limited number of wedges available, so you can continue to enjoy classes throughout your pregnancy.

  • Yes — Pilates is a great way to rebuild strength, posture, and confidence after pregnancy. We recommend waiting until you’ve had your 6-week postnatal check-up (or 8–10 weeks after a C-section) and have received medical clearance to return to exercise.

Start slowly with breathwork, gentle core activation, and pelvic-floor control before progressing to stronger movements. Our Begin – Form Foundations and Breathe – Release Tension classes are ideal starting points.

We’ll modify exercises to suit your recovery and comfort level. If you feel pain, heaviness, or abdominal “doming,” pause and speak with your doctor or women’s health physio before continuing.

You’re welcome to bring your sleeping baby — our covered balcony keeps them close while you move. If you’re bringing a pram, you’ll find a lift on Thompson Street — an easy, step-free way to get up to the studio.

  • If you’re recovering from an injury or have any concerns, please let us know before each class so we can support you safely. We recommend starting with our Begin – Form Foundations or our Breathe– Release Tension classes, where instructors can provide modifications tailored to your needs and help you gradually rebuild strength, stability, and confidence.

  • Your safety and wellbeing come first. Our classes are open to clients aged 16 and over. To give you peace of mind, all of our instructors hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and are committed to creating a safe, supportive environment for every client.

Thanks for helping us keep classes running smoothly for everyone 💜

  • To ensure the safety and flow of each session, we ask that you arrive on time and stay for the full class. If you arrive more than 5 minutes late, entry to the class may not be permitted. This helps maintain a smooth experience for everyone and ensures you don’t miss the important warm-up.

Studio etiquette

  • To help you feel comfortable and get the most from your session, we recommend arriving 10 minutes early to settle in and meet your instructor. For everyone’s safety, we can’t allow entry more than 5 minutes after class starts, as the warm-up is an important part of every workout. Thanks for helping us keep classes safe and enjoyable for all.

  • We have small storage cubbies at the entrances for shoes, bags, and personal items. Please wipe your feet on the rug as you come in and help keep the studio floor clean.

  • At the end of class, please use the wipe provided by your instructor to clean your reformer. Wipe down all touch points, including the carriage, footbar, shoulder rests, and any props used, so they are fresh and ready for the next person..

get in touch

  • We’d love to hear from you! Whether it’s feedback, questions, or suggestions, your input helps us make do pilates even better. You can chat with us after class, email hello@dopilates.au, or use the contact form on our website. We genuinely value your thoughts and will always do our best to respond promptly.

  • Absolutely. We build our timetable around the community’s needs, so if you’d love to see a class at a different time, let us know! Email hello@dopilates.au or tell your instructor after class — we review requests regularly when updating the schedule.

  • We’re a small, locally run studio — which means when you contact us, you’re speaking directly with our team. We do our best to respond within 24–48 hours, and we always appreciate your patience.

in the Studio

  • Our reformer classes are kept small —10 clients per session — so your instructor can give you the guidance and attention you deserve.

  • Grip socks are a must—for hygiene, safety, and a little extra grip. Forgot yours? We’ve got stylish pairs available for purchase at the studio. Bring a water bottle and towel if you like, but mostly just bring yourself!

  • Props are small pieces of equipment that add variety, support, or an extra challenge to your workout. This might include magic circles, foam rollers, soft balls (overballs), spiky balls, hand weights, blocks, wooden dowels, or therabands. Don’t worry if you’ve never used them before — we provide everything you need and your instructor will guide you through how to use each prop safely and confidently.

  • We love being part of a community where little ones (and pets!) can be nearby. Children and furry friends are welcome to sit or snooze quietly in our covered balcony, and we can keep the studio doors open so they stay within sight and sound while you move. They remain your responsibility at all times, and if they become noisy or disruptive, we’ll kindly ask you to step out and settle them before returning. Please note that if you do need to leave class, refunds aren’t available. Thanks for helping us keep the studio calm and comfortable for everyone.

  • To keep our classes safe, distraction-free, and respectful of everyone’s privacy, we ask that you don’t take photos or videos during class. If you’d like to capture a moment, please wait until after the session and check with your instructor first. Thanks for helping us create a comfortable space for all.
